We visited three classes, including English and Mathematics lessons for Class 2, 3, and 5. All the teachers are volunteers, running their classes from local churches. When the churches are unavailable, they must teach outside under a tree. They currently have no chairs, so the students learn on stones or cans. Evergreen generously donated 10 desks, but with 70 students most of the students still need desks.
As you can imagine, this is quite a harsh environment for the students to have to learn in, and yet the students eagerly watch their teachers in order to learn, and the teachers continue to teach enthusiastically despite the difficulties they face. They hope to reach many more students in the future. In particular, they are hoping to have their own space so that they can include and adult education class whereby adults can learn without feeling insecure or embarrassed. While using the churches, they are confined to the early hours where the space is not in use. This does not currently allow enough time to include an adult class.

Innocent teaches enthusiastically, and the children learning eagerly, despite having no chairs or desks.

The children smiling after class!
