The film Production Team!

The film production team put on a lovely performance for us today!

The aim of this team is to help educate students in filming, editing, acting, screen writing, and directing. One of their hopes is that FilmAid will provide them with job opportunities in the future, helping the students reach their dreams. However, equally as important to many of the students is that they want to use their skills in film production in order to educate their community about issues such as early marriage, prostitution, sexual health and family planning.

As one of the students told us “There are tears in my heart for Africa, terrible things that happen within the camp that are never spoken about, and I want to be able to express that through film and educate my community, in a way that reaches everybody.”

This training has the added benefit of keeping youth busy and motivated, helping them keep away from issues such as drug abuse, and ultimately reducing poverty. In the event of resettlement students might also be more equipped to succeed in their new host country.

The challenge they currently face is that they have very little equipment or educational books to help the students effectively learn. It is very difficult for them to learn many concepts without the equipment they would need to use. Yet they still gather every day in a small room made of iron sheets and timber to try their best. It is noisy, hot, and has very little space.
